Department of Pharmacology and Physiology, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chulalongkorn University, has first established the collaboration with RIKEN Center for Developmental Biology on the individual basis by the exchange visits and research collaboration. In May 2016, this collaboration was developed to be the official agreement, the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for establishment of general collaboration on academic and research activities, including exchange of faculty members, students, research, academic materials and publications, and holding meetings for education and research including seminar and symposia.
This first joint CU FPHS – RIKEN CDB symposium was a good start of the official joint activities between the two institutes to provide a platform for the academic staffs and students of RIKEN Center for Developmental Biology, Japan and Chulalongkorn University, Thailand to meet in an environment where they can acquire knowledge in key areas of developmental biology and physiology, and will also meet the aim of extending the interactive networks among students and academic staffs during this joint symposium.
The main content of this first symposium consisted of a special lecture about the left-right symmetry during development and a symposium entitle “From developmental biology to control of neural networks”. This symposium also strengthens and expands the collaboration and networking to other Faculties of Chulalongkorn University which will accelerate the exchange program, research collaboration and publication of collaborating research in the high impact factor research journals.
